Seven-year-old Donovan proud to run in honour of his NHS heroes

Donovan running for the NHS

A 7 year old boy with lifelong disabilities has been taking part in daily runs with his dad to raise money for the NHS.

On a recent walk with his family, 7 year-old Donovan was refusing to get out of his pushchair; his parents set him a mini challenge to win a prize of some sweets if he could get out of the pushchair and take a few steps. His response was "Am I running for the NHS?” his parents replied: “No, but there’s no reason why you can't.”

The 7 year old was born at just 26 weeks. He has needed support from the NHS from the minute he was born. As well as being born early, Donovan was born with complex learning needs; he has mild cerebral palsy, bilateral brain damage, a hearing impairment and is registered blind.

Donovan has been running with his dad throughout lockdown and at the beginning of May he even managed to complete a 200 metre run.

His parents said: “We could not be more proud of our amazing little boy. The aim of doing this was to have a little fun, raise a bit of money and play his part. Donovan could not be more proud of the NHS, his highlight every week is the chance to applaud on a Thursday evening… and stay up at little later! It isn't a massive distance that he ran but we think it's an amazing gesture.”
