Clinical Genetics
We provide counselling, support and diagnostic services to people with or at risk of inherited genetic disorders such as cancer, muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis.
This service is hosted by Derby Hospitals, with the main service and referrals being undertaken at our administrative base in Nottingham.
The Genetics Department at Nottingham City Hospital is the Regional Genetics Centre for the majority of the Trent region (a population of around 2.2 million). We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and North Leicestershire. We are based in Nottingham but our team also runs clinics in Mansfield, Grantham, Boston, Lincoln, Spalding, Skegness and Derby.
Initially patients will be assessed by a consultant and genetic counsellor and testing will be carried out if required. A counselling, support and advice service is offered to family members.
