National award for UHDB and CRH as digital system helps patients get faster care

Colleagues at UHDB and neighbouring Trust, Chesterfield Royal Hospital, have won a prestigious national award for jointly implementing the first phase of a new electronic patient record (EPR) system, which 12 months on, is bringing about real benefits for patients and clinical staff - supporting earlier diagnosis and treatment by helping teams quickly identify when patients are becoming unwell.

We are pleased that three teams across University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) have been hailed as national examples of healthcare excellence. University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) recently welcomed NHS England's Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) Helen Balsdon, Chief Midwifery Information Officer Jules Gudgeon and NHS England - Midlands Regional CNIO Deanne Driscoll to the Royal Derby Hospital to showcase the impacts being made by our Trust-wide digital transformation programme.

Sarah Gay, IT Security Team Leader at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB), has been recognised as one of the leading women in NHS cybersecurity – protecting patient data and keeping vital clinical systems safe – after winning the Women in Cyber Award, presented by the NHS Cyber Associates Network.

With many clinical systems and patient information now held digitally, cybersecurity is more important than ever to protect our patient's data, as well as support our hospitals to provide excellent care and operate effectively. Sarah has played an instrumental role in UHDB's robust cybersecurity, supporting clinical teams to have confidence in their access to safe data and digital systems - allowing them to provide better quality care for patients.

Digital innovation helps patients access hospital level support at home thanks to virtual ward care

Patients across Derbyshire and East Staffordshire can now receive hospital support while at home through a virtual ward service where patients, who have been assessed face to face by a doctor, are given monitoring equipment to use at home, which allows them to regularly report vital assessments via a digital app to medical and nursing teams based inside the hospital or community.
