Covid-19, one year on: Juliane Bryant

Juliane Bryant

To mark the one year anniversary of the pandemic, members of Team UHDB are sharing their thoughts and reflections of their personal and work lives during Covid-19.

The pandemic will have had a very different impact on each and every one of us, so the one year anniversary since we started to see the first inpatients admitted is a good opportunity to reflect on the year gone and to look forward.

Today, Juliane Bryant, receptionist on Ward 204 at RDH, has shared a poem she's written about her experiences of working through the pandemic.

The pandemic arrived; how we wish it would go as fast as it was thrust upon us. The nation must holt the things we do daily, to stop the new variations - because of the Covid 19 situation.

Stay at home, work from home, only shop for essentials, and please don’t visit your friends and relations - because of the Covid 19 situation.

As key workers, we are told to work; we must go to deliver the best of care, though we fear the virus as much as the rest of the nation - in this Covid 19 situation.

We face a shortage of staff as sickness and even death spring up to challenge us at every angle, disbelief and stress around every corner comes - because of this Covid 19 situation.

But family is strong and we work as a team and establish a new community, education, trust and love of each and every member binds us - to fight through this Covid 19 situation.

Yes, we have bad days, we all have a few, but care and strength come through, when you treat people as one of you, a team - in this Covid 19 situation.

Hands, face, space, we must practice, we all must work as a team, just look at what we have achieved, a vaccine to treat the nation, and we have all become strong - because of the Covid 19 situation.

Together as one, we look forward to having fun with loved ones and friends alike, as we welcome them once again into our lives, we remember the ones we have lost and will miss - because of this Covid 19 situation.

A longing of touch, or a hug for love, or luck we have missed, so rare it is at the moment, we will soon share, chat and share stories - about the dreaded Covid 19 situation
