UHDB's Carers Network marks Carers Week 2023

UHDB is delighted to be working with our Carers Network to mark Carers Week 2023, which is taking place from Monday 5 June - Friday 9 June 2023.

This is an excellent opportunity for all colleagues at UHDB, as well as members of our communities, to celebrate and reflect upon the hard work being done by those with caring responsibilities across our organisation.

A Carer is someone who looks after a family member, partner or friend who has an illness, disability, or needs assistance with daily living tasks - a demanding role that requires a great deal of time, effort and personal sacrifice. They play a crucial role in enabling people to live independent and fulfilling lives in their own communities, and their contribution should never be underestimated. At UHDB, we recognise the vital role of carers and are committed to supporting them in any way we can.

The Network will be hosting events throughout the week to celebrate - from information stands, to pamper days, and more.

Monday 5 June

On the first day of this awareness week, the UHDB Carers Network are holding an information stand in the Atrium of our Queen's Hospital Burton site. There, you can meet members of the Network and ask them any questions you may have and how to access support - including the Carers Passport, the 'Carers Pledge' that was signed by UHDB in 2022, Derbyshire Carers Associate or how to join the Staff Network.

Thursday 8 June

On this date, at Royal Derby Hospital, the Carers Network will be adding a special 'Pamper Day' programme alongside their information stand, for UHDB colleagues with caring responsibilties.

The 'Pamper Day' activities will take place in the Wellbeing Hub, and will include several Reiki or Reflexology treatment sessions, in 30 minute slots, from 9.30am - 3.30pm. There will also be several slots for head, neck and hand massages. As well as this, there are four Wellbeing Workshops being held throughout the day, at the following times:

11-11.45am: Wellbeing Overview
11.45am-12.30pm: Stress Awareness
12.30-1pm: Sleep Therapy
1.15-2pm: Relaxation Session

If you'd like more information on this, or to book onto a slot, please email Rachel Kirby - Deputy Lead of the Carers Network - on rachel.kirby9@nhs.net.

Friday 9 June

The week-long celebrations conclude with a very special public Carers Event titled 'Caring in the Community', reflecting on this year's theme.

This event will be held on the final day of this week-long celebration, on 9 June from 9.30am-4.30pm, at the Hilton Hotel at St George's Park in Burton.

This is an exciting opportunity for Carers and those they care for to get out, network, and access valuable information and support. In addition, we encourage attendance by all who are able to do so, in support of our superb colleagues who also maintain caring responsibilities alongside their roles at the Trust in this special week of celebration.

The event is free to attend, with free parking, and all are welcome! In addition, St George's Park is an accessible venue for all, and the beautiful grounds at the heart of the National Forest are free to roam for all in attendance who are able to do so.

At the event, which will be opened by Executive Chief Digital Information Officer and sponsor of the UHDB Carers Network, William Monaghan, there will be a number of stalls and information stands held by a range of organisations and charities relevant to those with caring responsibilities and beyond. These include:

  • UHDB Carers Network
  • Derbyshire Carers Association
  • Staffordshire Together for Carers
  • Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity
  • Alzheimer's Society (both Derbyshire and Staffordshire branches)
  • Yess Charity
  • Me and Dee Charity
  • Christians Against Poverty Charity
  • ABG Solicitor (Carer Friendly)
  • Financial Advisor
  • The Body Shop

Free tea and coffee will be offered to guests, with fun activities such as 'Nanny Bean's bug making workshop' tailored to children in attendance, as well as a raffle being held which will help raise money for the Carers Network's future events.

To create a relaxing atmosphere for everyone, this will all be taking place against the backdrop of a professional harpist, who will be performing for guests throughout.
