REMEDY team eager to support more patients access research after regional award win
A team of researchers has set its sights on expanding its scope to support yet more patients access cutting-edge healthcare through research after recently winning a regional award. The Research in Emergency Medicine in Derby and Burton (REMEDY) team was one of three entries to this year's National Institute for Health and Care Research's (NIHR) East Midlands Clinical Research Network (CRN) Awards, and won the prize for Outstanding Achievement by a Team for their work in helping more than 3,500 patients enrol into clinical research since their formation in 2017.

Innovative support programme for newly qualified colleagues and students shortlisted for national award
Students and newly qualified healthcare professionals are benefitting from an extensive pre-preceptorship and preceptorship support programme at UHDB, which aims to help them feel more comfortable and confident when they take on their first role in the NHS. The pre-preceptorship programme offers students from universities across the Midlands who are seeking or are already on a placement within the Trust the chance to attend a range of sessions over a five-day period, covering the fundamentals of care as well as providing vital pastoral support.

New Electronic Patient Record system supplier confirmed
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and Chesterfield Royal Hospital have confirmed their future electronic patient record system (EPR) will be provided by Nervecentre, after signing a joint contract last week.

Patient experience week 2024
Patient Experience Week is an internationally recognised week to raise awareness about the importance of good patient experience. Initially started by the Beryl Institute > in the US, the week is now celebrated in the UK too. UHDB is holding our own Patient Experience Week celebrations this week from 22 - 26 April, with further events planned for 29 April to 1 May to coincide with NHS England's Experience of Care Week.

Caring in the Community event returns to provide support and networking for carers for second year
The UHDB Carers Staff Network is delighted to be hosting its second Caring in the Community event - providing carers and those they care for with an opportunity to meet and network with other carers and supporting organisations from across the Midlands.

Clinical Digital team's role in digitising paper-based documentation commended by Chief Executive
Colleagues who have helped teams across the Trust to identify and streamline more than 1,000 paper-based patient records and forms and begin to transfer them to a digital format have been recognised for helping to improve patient safety. The Clinical Digital team organised and lead the Paper2Pixels events across the Trust in December 2023 and January 2024, which allowed teams to hand in their paper forms to identify how processes could be made safer and more efficient.

Physiotherapist Fiona receives MBE for her commitment to those living with Parkinson's Disease
Congratulations to Fiona Lindop, a Specialist Physiotherapist at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, who has been awarded an MBE for Services to Physiotherapy as part of His Majesty The King's New Year's Honours, in recognition of her tireless commitment and contributions to enhancing the lives of patients living with Parkinson's disease.

Dedicated Stores Coordinators Keir and Andy celebrated for their dedication to Royal Derby Hospital Renal Unit
Two Stores Coordinators based at the Royal Derby Hospital's Renal Unit have been recognised for their exceptional work ethic and dedicated approach to supporting patients and colleagues alike.
Keir Biggins and Andy Redfern help facilitate hundreds of dialysis sessions over the course of the week - as many as 120 a day, six days a week - both within the unit and in the community for patients who require dialysis at home.
Showing compassion, care and flexibility in what can be a challenging role both physically and emotionally, they play a major part in the efficient and smooth running of the unit, working adaptively and flexibly to any logistic challenge they may face - such as the procurement, monitoring and distribution of key consumable equipment.
