Back skills group

At Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, we run a 6 week programme that is aimed at patients struggling with persistent back pain, that focuses on beliefs about back pain, and providing skills to become more active.

It follows a cognitive behavioural approach as well as supporting a return to activity using exercise. It aims to help the move towards a self-management approach to back pain.

Topics covered

  • The nature and cause of persistent low back pain
  • The cognitive behavioural approach
  • Exercise and activity for low back pain
  • How thoughts and feelings can influence pain
  • Pain management skills
