Bariatric surgery: what do we offer?

We offer expert bariatric surgery with an experienced team of surgeons, physicians, nurses, dietitians, psychologists, anaesthetists, and physiotherapists providing effective weight-loss procedures tailored to your needs.

Types of weight loss procedures

We currently offer the following weight loss procedures:

Sleeve gastrectomy

This surgery makes your stomach smaller by removing approximately 80%, leaving a thin “sleeve.” You will feel full sooner and eat less. It’s usually done through small cuts (keyhole surgery). Afterwards, you will need a special diet and healthy habits to keep the weight off.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass

This surgery makes your stomach smaller and changes how food moves through your gut. The surgeon creates a small pouch from your stomach and connects it to your small intestine. This means you eat less and absorb fewer calories. It is usually done through small cuts (keyhole surgery). Afterwards, you will need a special diet and healthy habits to keep the weight off.

One anastomosis gastric bypass

This surgery makes your stomach smaller and changes how food moves through your gut. The surgeon creates a small pouch from your stomach and connects it to your small intestine with one join. This means you eat less and absorb fewer calories. It is usually done through small cuts (keyhole surgery). Afterwards, you will need a special diet and healthy habits to keep the weight off.

Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty

This is a weight-loss procedure done without surgery. A flexible tube with a camera (endoscope) is passed through your mouth into your stomach. The doctor places stitches inside the stomach to make it smaller and sleeve shaped. This means you eat less and feel full sooner. Recovery is usually quicker than surgery, but you will still need a special diet and healthy habits to keep the weight off.

Care after your surgery

We provide two years of routine post-operative care for all patients who undergo surgery with us.

Routine follow up care

We provide ongoing dietetic support for two years after surgery to maintain your nutritional health and wellbeing.

Post-surgical emergency care

In addition, we offer lifelong emergency care for any patient admitted to our hospital following a bariatric procedure, regardless of where the surgery was performed.

Examples of emergencies we manage include:

  • Internal hernia (when an internal part of the body pushes through a weakness in the muscle or surrounding tissue wall).

  • Small bowel obstruction

  • Marginal ulcers and perforations

Once the patient is stable, we will discharge ongoing care back to a GP.

What we don't offer

Please note the following services are currently unavailable:

  • Anti-obesity medications (e.g. Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda)*.

  • Non-surgical weight management support.

  • Gastric bands, gastric balloons, or duodenal switch operations.

  • Revisional surgery for weight regain.

  • Surgery for excess skin removal (including apronectomy).

  • We do not provide routine follow-up for patients who have had surgery privately in the UK or abroad.

  • Investigations into the cause of obesity (e.g. genetic conditions).

*Although the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has approved these medications, we are not commissioned to provide them at present. All referrals for this treatment will be declined. Regional discussions are ongoing, and we will update our website if this changes.

Gastric bands

We no longer offer gastric bands as a primary weight-loss procedure. As a result, we are unable to provide long-term follow-up or routine support for patients who currently have a gastric band. We are able to offer assessment appointments only for patients experiencing problems with their gastric band.
