Restrictions remain in place and inside all of our hospitals you still need to wear a mask, wash your hands and follow social distancing. Please see information for visitors > before you plan on visiting.

Breath Testing Service

We hold Breath Hydrogen Test clinics at Royal Derby Hospital and Florence Nightingale Community Hospital (LRCH). Currently, only the LRCH site is available for testing due to COVID-19 restrictions.

UHDB patients referred by their consultant can now book themselves in for a Breath Hydrogen Test online via the new Swift Queue booking system:

If you have received an invitation letter or email, you can book via the link below. Select the test your doctor has asked.

The new service helps patients, their carers and family members to plan their trip to a breath hydrogen test clinic, helping to reduce clinic waiting times and enabling patients to be seen much more quickly.

Important information:

Each clinic is for two patients only and there are two clinics each day Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays:

Please note that you must be fasting from 12 hours previously (no food or drink, other than water, please) and you must brush your teeth before you leave home.

We do not have space in the clinic for any family members or friends unless they are responsible for your immediate care or need to help translate for you. Essential carers are limited to one person per patient.

Each breath hydrogen test lasts at least 2 hours once you have finished the sugar drink. Please follow the instructions in the information sheet (Click on the link for information on each test above) for diet and fasting, as these may affect the test result.
