Women's Health Hub (Primary Care Gynaecology Service)

We are working closely with local GPs to explore different ways of providing gynaecology support for women to improve the timeliness of care and reduce pressure on busy NHS hospital waiting lists.

Many gynaecology conditions can be safely, effectively, and quickly managed away from a busy hospital, in a community setting. Which means patients access specialist care closer to home.

All GP referrals that we receive are triaged by a Gynaecology Consultant or specialist GP and appropriate referrals will be invited to attend a face to face appointment with the Primary Care Gynaecology service, usually within six weeks.

If you are referred to the Primary Care Gynaecology service, you will be seen by a GP who has additional training in women's health or a nurse or clinician who is specialised in gynaecology care.

The service will work closely with hospital Gynaecology services and any patients who need specialist assessment or surgery will be referred to secondary (hospital) care.

By supporting this group of patients in a community setting, hospital teams will be managing fewer referrals, which will mean patients who need expert hospital care will be seen quicker too.

What conditions will the service see?

Not all conditions will be suitable for the service, all referrals will be triaged by an expert team to decide which service is best to support you

Examples include menstrual problems, coil-related care, menopause related symptoms and pessary fitting.
