Refurbishment works taking place from February - April 2023

From Monday 13 February, refurbishment work and the installation of two new state-of-the-art mammography x-ray machines will be carried out in the unit. This work is expected to last until April 2023.

The essential work will case minor disruptions but if your appointment is scheduled to take place during this time, please be aware of the following changes you will see:

  • The main entrance to the unit will be closed so you will need to access the unit through a temporary entrance located on the left side of the building which will be clearly signposted.
  • During some phases of the improvement work we will have a smaller waiting room so please only bring one person to support you. At busy times we may ask your supporter to wait somewhere else and join you before you are called through to see the doctor or healthcare professional.  We will only do this if absolutely necessary.
  • When the new x-ray equipment is being installed some patients who require a mammogram will be escorted to the mobile x-ray facilities which will be located behind the breast unit. Please attend the main breast unit for your appointment and if you are being seen in the mobile unit, a member of staff will show you where to go.

If you will require mobility support, or will be using ambulance transport to get to your breast unit appointment, please contact the breast unit before your appointment date. You can telephone 01283 511 511 extension 5349, and we will ensure we have booked you an appropriate appointment.
